Great Research, Well Written, but Still Missing Something

The research here is spot on and it's very well written. I wasn't looking forward to reading a book on church dropout statistics, but Kinnaman made it interesting. His 6 reasons for young people leaving the church are no surprise, but he has organized it beautifully. For all of that, kudos Mr. Kinnaman.
What I feel is missing is a reliance on the power of God and the message of the gospel. Christians have the greatest story ever told, but do a horrible job telling it. Instead of being defensive, and much of the book "feels" defensive, I feel we need to find better ways to show how transformative being a Christian can be. Maybe Kinnaman said this overtly, but I didn't feel like it was truly spelled out. That said - good read.

Excellent discussion starters to go along with the DVD study. Our class really enjoyed talking about these issues. I wish Scripture had been included as I don't think it's wise for the church to do self-examination apart from a grounding in the Word.
